Home and origin are topics that immigrants and emigrants think about on a daily basis. The painful or cheerful thoughts of family and friends who were left behind are always on their minds. Berlin-based jewelry designer Denitza Margova plays with these feelings in her new Capsule Collection 2018 in a charming, lighthearted way.

Fresh as an iced grapefruit in summer: a colorful ring from Margova’s Capsule Collection 2018

Margova stands for feminine contemporary jewelry, made for modern, self-confident women. Denitza Margova’s vision of combininig modernity with elegance makes her pieces easy to understand. At the same time, they feel unique, because they are: each one of her pieces is handmade in her home country of Bulgaria.

Bulgarian handicrafts are a visible inspiration in the bold but delicate “Jonka” ring, named after a female family member

Inspired by her grandmother’s heirlooms

The new collection called “Dedication to my Roots” refers to the designer’s origins. The Bulgarian-born Margova wanted to create eye-catching pieces and found inspiration in her roots. Being home and safe as well as longing, poverty and freedom are reflected in her new collection. She mostly created rings, all of them inspired by family heirlooms, and named them after family members who actually still wear the pieces: her mother and grandmother. And there’s a signet ring modeled after a ring from her father, the only piece of jewelry he has ever been wearing. It’s called “Todor”, after him.

All pieces are delicate, lightweight and feminine and handmade from 14 carat gold. What’s also very beautiful and touching about this collection: You can really see and feel the tradition of Bulgarian handicrafts in them. Just imagine what would happen if they could also sing – think about the mystical female choirs from Bulgaria...

Denitza Margova loves colors – and colored stones like sapphires and emeralds

Denitza Margova wants to create jewelry that seems timeless. And makes you feel special. This approach has been reflected in her collections since she started her label in 2014. Denitza was born in Kardzhali, Bulgaria in 1986 and graduated in 2011 from the Academy for Fashion & Design in Hamburg. During her studies, she gained practical experience in New York and London. She worked with fashion designers like Stella McCartney and in the fashion department of Interview Magazine. All these experiences, young imagination, feminine enthusiasm, as well as creative strength drove Denitza to start her on her own label. Today, her creations are available at online boutiques like Luisaviaroma or Anita Hass.
